100 SQUARE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

Using our Strategic Plan and input from our community, the Board of Director sand Dr. Carver-Akers are expanding the school to fulfill our vision. Our vision includes being both a Language Immersion Montessori Schoolfor native and non-native speakers of French and Spanish from preschool through elementary school and a Language Community Center for those maintaining their own linguistic heritage.

A NEW HOME
EXPANDED PROGRAMMING

We have leased-to-purchase Building 300 at 3001 Academy Road in Durham. The new campus will enable us to:

•    Extend our preschool-kindergarten program
•    Add a bilingual lower elementary program in both French and Spanish
•    Offer after school and adult language programs
•    Expand our summer camps in scope and age
•    Provide dedicated space for the fine arts classes

THE 100 SQUARE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN GOAL

The goal of the 100 Square Capital Campaign is to raise $500,000 over the next 3 years. The $500,000 will cover renovations and 30% of the purchase price. The renovations of the building, the playgrounds, and the courtyard cost approximately $450,000. The contracted building purchase price is $675,000.

THE NEW CAMPUS

Thelower level will house our fine arts and community programming. It isaccessible both from the main level via a central stairwell and fromthe outside courtyard entrance.

THE 100 SQUARE

Themost famous of all the uniquely designed and self-correcting Montessorimaterials are the Golden Beads, which belong to the Math sequence inthe 3-6 classroom. This one simple and concrete material can teachplace value, all four mathematical operations and linear counting. Itis one of the last concrete materials a child uses before moving toabstract math.

100 SQUARE SCULPTURE

100 Square.jpgOurnew school will have a 100 Square Sculpture installation displayed inthe main hallway. The sculpture, designed  the artist, ClareCarver, will be an actual “100 Square” fabricated of copper wire and“golden beads.”

On each golden bead will appear either:
• Names of people who made our expansion possible or
• Quotes from people who continue to inspire us on a daily basis

Please see www.clarecarver.com/portfolio.html to learn about the artist
